25/3 DMF Website creation

Today I created the website for the Earnshaw hotel. The URL for the site is http://earnshawhotel.weebly.com. The theme I chose is inspired by the idea of the hotel's interior colours and designs. I published the website and wanted to see what the group thought of the site as all the group isn't in today. Lou got back saying that the about section should be retail orientated, so I changed the about section to provide viewers with a more retail experience and added a booking page as suggested. The page works well for viewers to get a visual perspective of what the hotel would look like in real life and there is a visual colour scheme to quickly immerse viewers. I have sent an email requesting to book the green screen studio for a day in the easter period and this will be for the tv presenter cover.

Tyler and Lou suggested changes about the theme, which was very useful. Tyler thought the theme wasn't very formal and Lou thought the images should be of Manchester's skyline as that is where it is set. I thought it was a good idea and changed the images to images of Manchester's skyline however I could not find a more formal theme to apply to the site.

We have also been communicating when everyone will be free to film the teaser trailer as our deadline is soon approaching. As it stands, we should be filming on the 7th April.

23/3 Experimental presentation

The presentation last week went well, but I am concern the group isn't motivated to complete the project. I believe this as last week, on the same day as the presentation, our member of the group who had the film was only uploading the film on the day of the deadline just hours before the presentation. Each week, our group meets and we don't ever set targets to reach for the following week. This is an alternative way to postpone work without progressing as I believe it is always possible to set targets to complete.

Our ideas seem to liquidise very quickly as the group never all seem to be on the same page. I struggle to understand the cause or concept behind the group's motivation. At best, I try to ensure that the group is progressing and have made the decision to continue work even if it means without making the group aware. Again it seems we have no solid infrastructure to our work, which I only hope leads us to serendipitous discoveries. The whole project is boring as nobody can explain why we conducting the project or what we hope to accomplish the project.

I think our group is only trying to pass this module without actually accomplishing anything, which makes me sad. I cannot change the ethics of the group members so I have to go on with it. If it was down to myself, I would pursue the idea of representing 5 different sins through shadow techniques as this would be the easiest for the group. The dancer idea is quite boring as there isn't a link between the dance or dancer to the seven deadly sins.

11/3 DMF Sound exploration

In today's seminar with Matt, we explored the use of sound to advance narratives. We played different instruments and found sounds we thought would be interesting for our project. Some instruments included the guitar and arpeggio, but our group found the voice changing instrument the most interesting as we could create distorted voices to represent voices from victims of room 112.

We also thought it would be a good idea for to have a old resident of the room to post up some audio clips he recorded on his own. These audio clips will then be found and blogged by the investigator to use as supporting evidence of the paranormal room.

We put together a brief schedule of when we would like things to be completed by and hope to stay on track using the schedule.

I got out a Marantz PMD 661 and recorded the audio clips of Tyler and Louise both speaking into the voice changing instrument. I also assisted another group with their sound recordings.

9/3 Completed infographic of tally chart

Today I completed the infographic that shows everyone who has stayed in Room 112 of the Earnshaw hotel. This infographic is useful for insight into the room without it being tedious. It allows viewers to gage how popular the hotel is and to see which demographic finds the room most appealing.

7/3 DMF Website creation and digital diary

I have completed the creation of my website and gone through the proper channels to hosting the site. I conducted research into low priced domains to see why one would be most suitable for myself. Some domains I came across were GoDaddy, Just host and ipage. Initially I believed GoDaddy to be the best as the online e-lecturer who provided the tutorial on how to operate Dreamweaver was promoting GoDaddy himself. I am sure it is a form of marketing, because once I had researched into the common problems of GoDaddy I became uncertain. Two deciding factors in my decision was the price and support. I wanted to register with a domain that offered sufficient support to its clients and did not hold a bad record for satisfying customer queries. I also wanted to a lowest priced domain too. After comparing different domains I noticed that many of them have very similar problems and that it was very subjective. I understand that companies like these won't always have support available right away.

I chose to go with ipage for my domain and have now purchased my domain and uploaded my site. It accomplishes what I set out to achieve and I am happy with it. It works as a online hub of information for myself and provides a method of contact for anybody to get in touch. There are things I would like to change so it will be an ongoing process of taking down the site and updating it, but I am happy to finally have it all ready.

The site is visualsofasimplist.co.uk

The name of the site reflects my style of creativity.

I noted how frequently I used and accessed social media in a day to gage how important social media is, I was quite shocked by the results.

07:48 - Snapchat via phone
07:52 - Facebook via Laptop
08:01 - Tumblr via Laptop
08:17 - Facebook via laptop
08:45 - YouTube via laptop
09:03 - Instagram via phone
09:04 - Snapchat via phone
10:15 - YouNow via laptop
11:07 - Snapchat via phone
11:55 - Tumblr via laptop
13.00 - Snapchat & Instagram via phone
13:59 - Snapchat via phone
14:28 - Twitter via phone
15:12 - Tumblr via laptop
15:15 - Snapchat via phone
16:19 - Fiverr & Facebook via laptop
16:50 - Facebook & Snapchat via phone
17:08 - Twitter via phone
17:27 - Instagram via phone
18:03 - Snapchat via phone
20:00 - Whats app via phone
21:23 - Instagram & Snapchat via phone
21:49 - Facebook via pgone
23:30 - Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram via phone

These results show that I am constant and consistent user of social media, what makes it even more shocking is I believe my usage is a lot more than this as it became difficult to record each time I access a different form of social media. Considering the results, this is probably similar for audience profiles similar to myself meaning social media is really a great tool for communicating information to others like myself.

4/3 DMF Graphic Novel exploration

Today we explored the conventions of graphic novels and the reasons why they are implemented. I began drafting the poster for the project and added additional information to the wikia. The class took part in an exercise to portray the results of the uses of Dopamine. This was conducting by doing a simple quiz and splitting the class into two teams. Groups were given the chance to tell the class how far they were with each production. We had explained where we were and the planned features we want to implement. It will be good to have a full team meeting, but as Lou and are available at different times, we have not yet been able to have one.
